The world of cosmetic procedures can be a little intimidating, especially if you're considering getting botox for the first time. You may have questions like "What is botox?" "How long does botox last?" or "What are the possible botox side effects?"

What is Botox?

Botox is a drug made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It's used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralysing muscles. The procedure involves injecting small amounts of Botox into specific muscles, which blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles, causing them to relax and soften.

How Long Does Botox Last?

One of the primary concerns of my clients before getting botox is understanding how long it will last. The duration of results can vary depending on several factors, including your age, skin condition, lifestyle habits, and how your body metabolises the product. However, on average, the effects of botox can last anywhere between three to four months.

After this period, you'll notice that muscle action gradually returns and wrinkles begin to reappear. But don't worry! They won't be as severe as before since your muscles are being trained to relax.

At your consultation, we will discuss all factors that could affect your experience with Botox, so you can make an educated decision about your treatment. You’ll never receive any pressure from me!

Botox Side Effects

Any medical procedure comes with potential side effects, and botox is no exception. At Aesthetically Refined, we prioritise your safety. While some individuals may experience minor discomfort, such as bruising and swelling at the injection sites, serious side effects are rare.

We will always discuss potential risks with our clients at their consultation, before they decide to proceed with the treatment.

My personal experience with clients at Aesthetically Refined has always been remarkably smooth, with only minor bruising and swelling that subsides within days.

What to Expect During Your First Botox Treatment

Stepping into Aesthetically Refined for your first botox appointment, I understand that you might be feeling slightly nervous - this is normal! You will be greeted with professionalism and reassurance and I will guide you through the entire process, making it as quick and painless as possible.

The fine needle used for injection may cause a slight pinch, but the procedure is over in seconds, often likened to the sensation of getting your eyebrows threaded or plucked.

After the treatment, it's crucial to refrain from rubbing or massaging the treated areas to prevent the spread of botox to unintended muscles. Strenuous exercise should also be avoided for the first 24 hours post-treatment.

How Often Do I Need Botox?

The frequency of your botox treatments will depend on how long the effects last for you personally and your desired results. As mentioned earlier, botox typically lasts between three to six months. Once you notice the effects wearing off, you can schedule another appointment.

It's worth noting that regular treatments can lead to longer-lasting results over time as your muscles are trained to stay relaxed.

Getting botox for the first time can be a nerve-wracking experience, but it doesn't have to be.

By understanding what botox is, how long it lasts, its potential side effects, what to expect during treatment and how often you need it – you'll be well-prepared for your first appointment.

Remember that everyone's experience with botox is unique – what works for one person may not work for another. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your decision and confident in me as your Aesthetic Practitioner. After all, beauty should always be about feeling good in your own skin!
