A lot of clients come to me asking for natural looking lip fillers, but not many of them have heard of the Lip Flip! There have been cases where clients want to keep their natural lip shape but just make it a little fuller, they might also want to get rid of their gummy smile too. That’s when I’ll suggest the Lip Flip.
It’s your Aesthetician’s job to make sure that you have the best option for your face, and sometimes the lip flip is the best alternative to achieve the perfect pout. Let’s see why!
What is a Lip Flip?
A Lip Flip involves injecting small amounts of Botox into your upper lip muscles. This relaxes the muscles around your mouth, causing your upper lip to curl upward or 'flip', giving you fuller-looking lips without adding volume.
This procedure is different from traditional lip fillers where substances like hyaluronic acid are injected directly into your lips to increase their size. The Botox lip flip focuses on enhancing the shape and position of your lips rather than their volume, providing a more natural look.
Is the Lip Flip for your lip type?
Whilst nobody walks out of my clinic looking overdone or ‘ducky’, fillers do change your lip shape due to the plumping effect. The Lip Flip simply enhances what you already have! It gives your lips a slightly fuller appearance by flipping out your upper lip and making more of it visible.
I like to recommend this treatment to clients that already have quite full, shapely lips. The aim of aesthetics is to enhance what we already have, not to cover it up or change it entirely.
Treatment for Gummy Smile
The Lip Flip is an incredible treatment for that common aesthetic concern: the gummy smile. A gummy smile is when a significant portion of your gums is visible when you smile. This can sometimes make your upper lip appear thinner and your smile less balanced.
Because we’re injecting botox into your upper lip muscles, it makes them relax and not pull your lip up as high when you smile. This not only gives you fuller-looking lips but also creates a more balanced and aesthetically pleasing smile, and it’s a personal favourite treatment of mine!
Botox Lip Flip vs Lip Filler
When deciding between a lip flip vs fillers, it's essential to consider what you're hoping to achieve. This is something that I talk all of my clients through during their consultation, and we will never go ahead with a treatment that I believe will make your face look unbalanced.Â
If you're looking for a subtle enhancement and want to address concerns like a gummy smile, then the Botox lip flip might be the perfect solution for you.
However, if you're looking to significantly increase the volume of your lips, then traditional fillers might be more suitable. It's also worth noting that while the results of a lip flip can last up to four months, traditional fillers tend to last longer – usually between six months and a year.
